WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC
Botox® is a purified form of Botulinum toxin, which was developed to treat the visual signs of aging by reducing wrinkles.
HOW DOES BOTOX® WORK AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
BOTOX® works by preventing the release of messengers (acetylcholine) at the junction of the nerves and the muscles. Without the release of these messengers, the muscles are temporarily paralyzed. All it takes is one 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there’s a noticeable improvement, which can last up to 4 months.
WHAT LIMITATIONS DO I HAVE AFTER TREATMENTS?
Following your Botox® treatment at COVA Medspa, you can resume much of your normal routine. Dr. Cova will ask that you remain upright for several hours and to avoid alcohol, exercise, and sun exposure. Your skin may be sensitive or you may experience some mild bruising following the treatment, but most side effects are minimal and short-lasting.
HOW MANY UNITS OF BOTOX® ARE TYPICALLY REQUIRED?
The number of units depends on a variety of factors. Averages are listed below:
- crow’s feet: 18-24
- glabella (between eyes): 18-24
- forehead: 10-20
- lateral eyebrow lift: 4-6
